During this workshop, we learned the foundations of a leader. This workshop challenged us to think of the roles of Global Citizenship. Before this workshop, I believed a global citizen is someone who has a diverse mindset and is aware of different cultural practices. Through the various activities, I participated in I am now able to define a global citizen as
someone who plays an active role in fighting for equality for all humans. At the start of this workshop, we were prompted to think about how we are interconnected with the world. I thought of things like emotions, social media, and fashion. As big as the world is, there are simple mediums that can weave us together. With this being said becoming a global citizen allows me to focus on the issues that are beyond just individual life. Thinking of global issues switches the egocentric focus of small problems that are in front of me. To larger issues that can have direct effects on everyone. Understanding that we are interconnected puts the pressure on each of us to do our part in obtaining significant change.
This workshop showed me that I could be doing more to advocate change toward the issues that I care about. I want to take more of an active role in changing the way we view race and community relations. I believe that the environment that we are raised in has a major impact on how we view our current situations. I believe the more perspective we have the more understanding we have of others' differences and ultimately ourselves. Developing small solutions like creating spaces for uncomfortable conversations for things like race, inequality or politics. It can shift the current wave of discrimination and ignorance to one of acceptance and knowledge. This workshop has helped me to pinpoint what issues I am passionate about changing and what impact I can have to change the reality I see. As a global citizen, I must promote global awareness to sustain peace in a world where our differences should be seen as bridges and not barriers.
