This workshop explored the resources and opportunities that encompass teaching English as a second language. I learned of on-campus opportunities to tutor exchange students through the Interlink Language program. I also acquired knowledge of the various certifications for teaching, such as the TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). I was particularly interested in the teaching of a foreign language because of my time abroad in South America. While abroad, I did my own informal tutoring of English, with my Peruvian classmates. For me, this opportunity allowed me to gain an analytical sense of Spanish and English and the process of language acquisition. From learning Spanish in an intensive setting, I understand the fears and insecurities that surround language learning. In the future, if I decide to teach English as a second language, I will use my experience to encourage others in their language journey.
