“Dispara cobarde, solo vas a matar a un hombre” (Kill me, I am only a man); The final words of Che Guevara, an Argentine Marxist revolutionary. I had a friend that was very passionate about politics and he told a bit of history about Che and his profound final words. This inspired me to watch this documentary “Che Guevara: Guerrilla to the End”. Che was a man who lived and died by his words and for his beliefs. While watching the documentary I was reminded of an online class lecture about Immigration and how America invaded Central America to stop the rise of communism. In this documentary America invaded Bolivia to train troops against Che to defeat the guerrillas. All to dismantle communism. Some things that I found interesting was that the government believed Che’s assassination was the most rational decision. It makes sense, the government wanted to prevent an open revolution that would have aroused other foreign movements causing chaos across South America. I believe Che was victorious because he was valiant against an untrustworthy political system. The documentary also shared how Che drastically changed his appearance as he ventured to places like Uruguay, Africa, and Bolivia. This showed me just how dedicated he was to the cause. He was willing to literally lose himself in an attempt to liberate a continent. Watching this documentary filled in some gaps about history, for example how Che was a prominent figure in the Cuba revolution and Fidel Castro's rise to power. Often the only history I hear about Cuba is from the American cold war perspective. This documentary gave me a lesson in history from the eyes of an important revolutionary figure.
